Are your wicks lead free?

Yes, all Chesapeake Bay Candles are made with 100% lead free wicks.

Why do some of your candles have more than one wick?

With certain candle sizes and shapes multiple wicks create an even burn allowing the candle burn pool to quickly open up releasing more fragrance faster!

Why do many of your candles have soy wax in them?

Soy wax allows the burn pool to open up quickly aiding in fragrance hot throw release. It also is good for the environment since soy wax comes from soy beans, which is a truly sustainable and local resource! The reason we do not use 100% SOY is it is very soft and can lead to wax burn that is not optimized(uneven, too fast, etc.). Our R&D team has found the right balance of soy and other materials to give enjoyable burn and fragrance experience.

Are your candles safe?

All of our candles are tested in development and mass production to ensure that they are compliant with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) candle standards.

Will your candle produce soot or smoke?

If the candle usage instructions are followed then soot & smoke should be minimal. Remember to trim the wick to ¼” prior to lighting and keep the candle away from drafts, air currents, and heat sources during burning.

Are our fragrances natural?

Our fragrances include both natural and synthetic raw materials.

The use of synthetics tremendously increases the number of raw materials we have access to, and therefore enhances creativity and allows for more complexity, refinement and consistency in character. Naturals help embellish fragrances with their authenticity, purity and elegance, adding a timeless dimension. Most of our fragrance are beautifully balanced and rounded with natural essential oils.

Removing Wax Stains

Step 1: Scrape off the excess wax with a dull knife.

Hint: If the wax is still soft, and has not yet hardened, place the clothing in the freezer which will harden the wax and make it easy to scrape off.

If you scrape while still wet you run the risk of smearing the candle wax further, making it both harder to remove and also getting the stain spread around further too.

Step 2: To remove the rest of the wax remaining on the fabric place the stained area between clean paper towels and press the cloth with a warm iron. This will transfer the now warm wax from the cloth to the paper towel.

Hint: You need to switch out the paper towels quite often when doing this step. Do not get stingy with the paper towels because if you just move the paper towel over to a clean section, for example, you run the risk of spreading the wax stain to new areas of the garment.

Further, make sure your iron is NOT on the steam setting for this process. The steam will only dampen the paper towels or brown paper being used, and hamper the process of transferring the wax from the fabric to the other surface.

To visually see this ironing technique, check out these tips for how to remove candle wax from clothing and tablecloths.

Step 3: Now that the wax is removed if you still have a stain, pre-treat the candle wax stain with a laundry pre-wash stain remover.

Step 4: Launder in the hottest water the fabric will allow to get out the stain, and either chlorine bleach if the fabric will allow it, or color bleach if not.

Hint: Make sure the stain is gone after washing, but before you place in the dryer or you may set the stain. Repeat if necessary.

If this does not work, the next step for candle wax stain removal is to try blotting dry cleaning solvent on the stain. Once the stain is removed launder as usual.
